Postnatal Doula – Colchester – Essex – London
A positive postnatal experience
Postpartum care designed to protect your peace and recovery. Whether it’s a hot meal, a listening ear, or an extra pair of hands so you can rest.

Imagine being able to finally have a shower or take a nap while someone else holds the baby… then coming down to find the washing-up done, a load of laundry has been put on and a pot of home-made soup is simmering away on the stove… all of which means that you’ll feel more able to cope with those fussy cluster-feeding evenings.
The early weeks with your newborn are an intense experience; beautiful, all-consuming, overwhelming and everything in between. This ‘fourth trimester’ is often a daunting time as you try to learn your baby’s needs and patterns while recovering from birth coupled with sleep deprivation. Having a helping hand, someone to listen and hold space and give you what you need cannot be underestimated in setting the foundations for a positive postnatal experience.
Unlike a nanny or maternity nurse, a postnatal doula not only helps to care for and nurture the newborn and any siblings, but will empower and assist the family as a whole. I won’t take over but will support you practically and emotionally, holding space as you find your way and settle into your new roles, making sure that you are well-nourished, nurtured and as rested as possible.
I offer one-off sessions (minimum 3 hours), but typically book a block of 12 or 21 hours to be split over a 4-6 week period. I also offer overnight postnatal support which can be booked as a block or a complete one-off.
Some of the ways I can help:
- Caring for your baby so that you can rest or shower
- Listening to whatever’s on your mind, including talking through your birth experience
- Supporting you as a trained infant feeding coachTM, whether breast/chest-feeding, bottle or expressing
- Helping you learn your baby’s cues and needs, and to understand normal newborn behaviour
- Looking after siblings, or your baby to give you time with your older child/ren
- Preparing simple nutritious meals and snacks for your family
- Light housework such as laundry and tidying
- Basic pet care/exercise if needed
- Connecting you with local perinatal professionals for specialised issues such as family osteopaths, tongue-tie practitioners or pelvic physios
- Sharing evidence-based resources so you can make informed parenting decisions
- Accompanying and supporting you on trips out of the house, including for appointments
- Overnight doula care so that you and you partner can get more rest and feel refreshed
I will respond to and care for your little one throughout the night (typically 10pm-7am) while you get some much-needed sleep, knowing they are in safe hands and well looked after.
Things I might do at night:
- I will sleep in the same room as your baby (such as a spare room or the lounge – I’ll bring my own bedding so there are no extra demands on you)
- Bring your baby to you if you are breastfeeding, assisting with latch and positioning for effective pain-free feeding, then let you get straight back to sleep while I change, soothe and settle your little one
- If you are bottle feeding, I’ll prepare and give your baby their milk
- Calm and comfort your baby throughout the night
- Change your baby as needed
- Keep notes on your baby’s feeding and sleep patterns, nappy changes etc.
- Wash and sterilise bottles and pump equipment, ready for the next day
Thing I don’t do:
- Offer clinical or medical support
- Sleep training (which is not recommended before 4 months’ old at the earliest)
- Tell you how you should parent!
