Research shows that having a doula:

  • Increases the probability of spontaneous labour and physiological birth
  • Reduces the likelihood of an induction and the rates of medical interventions in your birth, including lowering the chances of having an unplanned caesarean
  • Shortens the length of labour
  • Significantly increases the chances of having a positive birth experience
  • Increases the likelihood of successfully initiating and establishing breastfeeding
  • Eases the transition into new parenthood, including providing support for partners and family members

How doulas help

Pregnancy, birth and parenthood are a journey, with unpredictable twists and turns. I’ll be with you every step of the way, for as long as you need, and give you confidence in your own ability to achieve the experience you want and deserve

From the beginning of time, people have been cared for and nurtured during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Traditionally, mothers, aunts, sisters or even neighbours would be around to support a new family during and after a baby’s birth. But society has changed dramatically, losing much of that community dynamic and now, with our health system increasingly stretched, doulas are providing more families with reassuring support and connected care than ever before.

As a birth and postnatal doula, I provide crucial continuity of care. However your family has taken shape, I will support and empower you in making choices for a positive birth experience, tailored to your unique circumstances, and ease the newborn stage with hands-on help, infant feeding support and nourishing food for you, giving you the best start with your baby.

Working together

I work WITH you, rather than FOR you, creating a TEAM that works together for the best outcome.

There is the right doula for everyone – get in touch for an informal chat and see if I am the one for you! I offer a free, no-pressure 30-minute chat – in person, by phone, or video call, to see if we’re a good fit.

I cover North Essex, South Suffolk and parts of East and North-East London as a birth doula, and offer postnatal doula services in Colchester and surrounding areas (within a 15-mile radius).

Contact me for a free initial consultation to talk about my services and answer any questions you may have. We can discuss availability and the type of package to suit your individual needs. I accept payment by instalments to ease the cost.

A doula is not a luxury just for the rich, and you don’t need a fortune to hire one!

A doula can often save you money in terms of the things that you think you will have to buy for your newborn, by talking over the options and helping you budget more effectively. If you’re looking to really minimise costs, you can pretty much get through the first year with just a £40 sling, a bunch of new-to-you reusable nappies and your boobs, and save thousands along the way. Having a doula is an investment that reaps unseen rewards, saving you time, money and hassle, as well as buying personalised support, continuity of care and precious peace of mind (which is almost impossible to put a price on).

What is a mentored doula?

I currently offer support as a mentored doula while I gain experience under the guidance of an advisor. Whilst I am mentored, my prices are discounted. Prices will increase once I am accredited.

My Doula Services

A birth doula supports you physically, emotionally and practically through your pregnancy, labour and birth journey, advocates for your needs and wishes and provides continuity of care, helping you feel safe and supported.
A postnatal doula gives you time and energy to bond with your baby, to heal and recover from your birth and to feel supported along the way.
Do you need support overnight in those first few weeks so that you can get more sleep? An overnight doula helps with night feeds and resettling, emotional support for you, plus small household tasks etc.
Not looking for a traditional full birth doula package? There are other ways to access support and advice, whether virtually or through personalised one-off sessions.
One of the first hurdles many new parents encounter is feeding their baby, whether it’s with breast milk, formula, or a combination. Getting in-person support in the early days and weeks can make a dramatic difference.

Gift vouchers for doula services

When you can’t be there in person to lend a hand, a Nourishing Doula gift voucher for dedicated personalised care, exactly when it’s needed, is the perfect solution to help a new family.
